If you are a U.S. citizen applying for a Nigerian visa, it’s important to follow the correct process and be aware of updates that may not yet appear online, especially regarding required documents and office location.
This guide is intended for U.S. citizens living in Maryland and the Washington, DC area. Visa applications are submitted through an authorized visa processing center (OIS Services) after completing the official online application.

As of December 19, 2025, the steps and document requirements below reflect what was required before I was able to successfully submit my application.
All Nigerian visa applications must begin online through the official Nigerian Immigration Service portal.

Complete your visa application
Submit required information
Pay the visa application fee
Important: The online application must be completed first before visiting the visa office in person.
$160 - Paid online during application submission
This payment is required before your application can move forward
After submitting your application online, you must visit the visa office to complete processing.
At the office:
You will pay an additional $52 administrative fee
Your documents will be reviewed and finalized
You will be fingerprinted and also have your picture taken (Biometrics)
The visa office in Rockville, Maryland has relocated, and this update is not yet reflected on many websites or online listings.

Invitation letter (signed) from the person inviting you
Copy/photo of the inviter’s Nigerian passport bio-data page, clearly showing:
The person’s face
The signature page of the passport
If no one is formally inviting you, you will need:
Airbnb or hotel reservation details
Flight itinerary
Recent bank statement (to show proof of funds)
